Festive Season and Road Safety
The festive season is upon us, road safety should be top of mind, not only now in this busy time but always.
Many of us will be going on holiday and most will be traveling long distances. Make sure your vehicle is in tip top shape to take on the trips.
Making sure your vehicle is ready and roadworthy is not only for your own safety but for the safety of other road users as well.
Firstly, and most important in my opinion is Tyres. Make sure your tyres have suitable tread depth and not old and dry rotted. The tread depth might be okay but old tyres are a big concern. They are prone to burs and can have serios consequences. Most tyre fitment centres do free tyre and shock checks especially over the festive period.
Always inflate your tyres to manufacturer specifications, if you have fitted aftermarket or different sized wheels to the original spec, consult your nearest Tyre fitment centre for the correct tyre pressure. Over or underinflating your tyres could also have dire consequences. It could cause irregular tyre wear, influence fuel consumption as well as vehicle handling and road holding.
Make sure the vehicle services are up to date, you don’t want to be left stranded. Most manufactures or even RMI approved workshops do free vehicle inspections.
Make sure basic’s are checked and in working order like, Front and back lights, brake lights, indicator lights, wipers and that wipers washer fluid is topped up.
Also don’t drive like a hooligan, keep following distances, keep to the speed limits and respect other road users and pedestrians. You don’t own the road so don’t act like it.
Lastly, don’t drink and drive, not cool.
Stay safe and arrive alive !
