Updated Suzuki S-Presso
With its weird styling the Suzuki S-Presso has been one of Suzuki’s success stories here in SA.
The S-Presso has now been updated but honestly you must really look closely to see the changes.
As a start the new S-Presso now gets 14-inch mag wheels for the GL+ as well as the S-Edition variants.
As for the S-Edition it now gets silver bumper inserts as well as some additional exterior details.
The Suzuki S-Presso’s main rival comes from the Renault stable, more specifically the Renault Kwid and to a certain extent the discontinued Datsun GO.
Even though the Renualt Kwid outsells the S-Presso, which in my opinion is manly due to the Kwid’s appearance compared to the S-Presso, the S-Presso should not be discarded.
For a small compact SUV the S-Presso is actually spacious inside, the cabin is modern inside and even at this price point you get Android Auto, Apple Carplay as well as Bluetooth connectivity. Also don’t forget it also has steering wheel controls which is and should be the norm for all vehicles these days.
The S-Presso is powered by a small 1.0 litre 3 cylinder motor which is good for 49kW and 89Nm. It dos not sound like much but being a small light weight vehicle it does the job well.
You can also choose between a 5-spd manual great box or an AMT (Automated Manual Transmission). I have driven both before and I must say the Manual gearbox in this care is the one to go for.
Fuel consumption is rated at around 4.5 litres per 100km, I managed around 5 litres per 100km on the combined cycle which is not bad at all.
So who should buy the S-Presso, well for one I believe it makes for a great student or pensioners vehicle, or for someone that does a lot of town driving.
Pricing starts at around R162,900 for the base GL spec and goes up to around R199,900 for the S-Edition AMT.
All Suzuki S-Presso variants are available with a 2-year/30,000km service plan and a respectable 5-year/200,000km mechanical warranty.
If you are in the market for a budget beater, go test drive the Suzuki S-Presso, it really offers great value for money.
