Opel Mokka X
The Opel Mokka has recently been revised, now called Mokka “X”. All Opel’s SUV’s and crossovers will now be identified with the “X” logo going forward.
The front fascia of the Mokka has been updated, it looks a bit more aggressive and modern. It also now sports new daytime LED’s as well as LED headlamps. On the inside it gets the new Astra dash layout, which is very nice indeed.
You still get the same 103kW / 200NM 1.4T Ecotech petrol motors, with either 6-speed manual or Auto gearboxes.
Fuel consumption is claimed at around 5.9 and 6.5 litres per 100 km, I however managed around about 7.5l/100km driving conservatively.
At the launch I drove the top of the range Cosmo model with 19” alloys, I found the steering to be a bit over assisted but still precise. The road holding is great, but the 19” alloys causes the ride to be a bit harsh. Rather opt for 18” / 17” setup. I also found the power delivery to be acceptable with minimal turbo lag.
The Cosmo gets a new infotainment system with R4.0 IntelliLink, a driver display and a USB port, which is also available as an option on the base Enjoy models. (Around R7,000)
Optional on the Cosmo only is a further R10 700 upgrade, to the Navi 900 IntelliLink with satnav – as its name suggests – and colour display, as well as a sunroof (R6500) and a R25 000 premium LED lighting set-up that includes self-levelling adaptive headlights with integrated cornering lights, and LED tail-light clusters.
Honestly the Navigation upgrade is not worth it, the normal “BrinGo App” intergarion works perfectly.
Model Range (Pricing between around R320k to R370k):
Mokka X 1.4T Enjoy
Mokka X 1.4T Enjoy AT
Mokka X 1.4T Cosmo
Mokka X 1.4T Cosmo AT
These include a five-year or 120 000km warranty and a five-year or 90 000km service plan linked to 15 000km service intervals.
Verdict:
This is a great alternative to the top selling Ford EcoSport, I just love the new styling.
My pick: Mokka X 1.4T Enjoy AT
