Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG
The Mercedes E63 AMG is one of the most powerful sedan cars you can buy.
Power outputs in the latest E63 have risen to 410kW & 720Nm for the AMG and 430kW & 800Nm for the AMG S
The E63 sits at the very top of the Mercedes E-Class range, and competition comes from the BMW M5 and Jaguar XFR.
The AMG saloon makes an incredible noise when you accelerate and even though it weighs nearly two tons, performance is stunning. Featuring a seven-speed automatic gearbox with four driving modes (Comfort, Sport, Sport Plus and Manual), the E63 is remarkably versatile and very easy to drive on an everyday basis.
A luxurious cabin masks schizophrenic nature of the E63 AMG super-sedan.
Don’t ask what the fuel consumption is, expect a real world figure of around 15 litres per 100km, that is when driving conservatively !
It is extremely quick 0-100km/h in 4.1 seconds for the AMG S and 4.2 for the standard AMG
Steering is sharp and precise and grips well in the corners.

Verdict:
The Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG is a real monster, yet sophisticated and classy, whilst capable of Ferrari-like performance. It is comfortable enough to drive daily. It’s fitted with one of the most impressive engines currently on sale, so you do get a lot of very fast car for your money. It can also carry up to five people in superb comfort. It’s very well kitted-out as standard, but buyers can also add optional equipment such as a panoramic sunroof, carbon-fibre trim and a reversing camera.
My pick:
Obviously the AMG S J
My pick in the segment:
Still the AMG S
Others in the segment:
