Since Haval’s arrival in SA in 2017, they have slowly but surely started to take a slice of the cake in the SA vehicle market.

They offer some great value for money vehicles which are all decently equipped. For those of you which don’t know, Haval is to GWM as Lexus is to Toyota, Haval is thus the luxury brand of GWM.

The H2 was Haval’s best seller for some time, until the launch of the Haval Jolion, averaging around 400 units per month. The aim with the refreshed H2 was to take a bigger chunk of the compact crossover market. The H2 did prevail but the Jolion became the force to be reckoned with.

The reason for my blog on the H2 is to remind you that there are still some great examples of the H2 out there. If you budget does not allow you to get into the Jolion, the H2 is a pretty great alternative.

The interior of the H2 has always had a quality feel to it, the quality level is above average for this segment so if you have not driven one you will be well surprised.

Some interior goodies include:

-Keyless go

-Reverse Camera

-Touch Screen infotainment system (Apple CarPlay only)

-Electric adjustable seats

-Lux models also gets a panoramic roof

Not only is the H2 packaged well, it also drives well.

The 1.5l turbo petrol delivers a respected 105kW and 202Nm (8.6L/100km for the manual and 8.8L/100km for the auto). It handles the corners well with minimal body-roll and it feels quite solid on the road.

If safety is on top of your list, don’t be worried, the H2 scores five stars in the ANCAP safety rating and is equipped with ABS, EBD, brake assist, stability control, a tyre pressure monitor system and a fuel cut-off system if you’re in an accident and 6 airbags.

Overall the H2 offers great value for money. It has a premium feel when compared to its rivals and good luck in finding a similarly prices cross over with the same spec sheet at this price point.

For peace of mind the H2 comes with a 5 year/100 000km warranty and a 5 year /60 000km service plan. You also get 5 year roadside assist.

I have spoken to many Haval owners and more specifically owners of the H2 and older model H2’s and I can report that in general these vehicles are solid and reliable.
